Each month we revisit the short term rental regulation landscape in Summit County. My assistant Jennifer and I have been keeping the information in one place in the linked Google document. We just added links to all the government webpages where you can find each jurisdiction’s rules.

If you are a buyer and short term rental income is important, then you MUST work with someone who understands the STR regulations and/or educate yourself on the current rules. Governments are continuously revisiting this issue and things change quickly.

For instance, there is a focus group in Breckenridge reviewing exempt properties and this group could change the current exempt properties.

The town of Dillon is looking at implementing limits on short term rentals too.

Some Homeowners Associations restrict STR’s also, and this information isn’t on any governmental website. In summary – be sure you know the rules surrounding a property before you buy it.
